Invoice Machine submit buttons

This a great set of buttons. I don’t have much more to say, they’re excellent. One is big, one is small. One is primary, the other secondary. Well done Invoice Machine.

Invoice Machine slideshow rocks

The “ticket stub” looking interface makes it hard to miss those arrows. Too many slide shows have hidden arrows until you hover on them, making it imparitive to mouse around to discover them. Bad form. Some implementations of the arrows show them outside of the image, making it an afterthought to the image in plain view. Others show them on top of the image, obstructing the view. But these guys split the uprights, showing the arrows on the edge of the image.

This implementation takes no time to realize it’s one image of a series. And the numbers (1, 2) in the bottom right corner are also a dead giveaway.

Don’t hide functionality, but keep it out of the way. Notice there is plenty of white-space around the widget and the frame. Good stuff, and well done Invoice Machine!

IE7 moves refresh & stop buttons

This has bothered me for a while: Microsoft IE7 launched with an updated UI. They shuffled the deck, and moved refresh and stop to the right of the address bar.

To me, this is equivilent to putting the door knob on the same side as the hinges. It might work, but it feels backwards!

Back, forward, refresh, stop, address bar. There is a good reason to stick to established conventions. People are used to them, and they work.

The refresh button doubles as a go button, when typing/changing the URL. I can count the times I’ve used the go button on one hand. It’s useless to me. But perhaps IE users use it, I don’t know, it’s a possiblity.

Windows IE8 uninstaller does it all wrong

Yea yea, I know, for Windows this is par for the course.

Note the unnecessary extra space. Don’t do this. They were probably constrained to this window size, but still, the checkbox would be better either near the paragraph of text, or near the Finish button.

The buttons are a bit irrational, too. Finish is the only option. The other two should be removed, not blurred. Finish, as a label, isn’t descriptive. At the moment, clicking it will restart my computer. “Restart” would be a better label. They could remove the checkbox and use a button instead, named “Do not restart.” Oh well.
